I love teaching at Mountain Gap. I sincerely enjoy contributing to my community and supporting my neighborhood school. I believe Mountain Gap is a great school staffed with teachers and administration who genuinely care about students.
I attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham my freshman year of college, but I transferred to Auburn my sophomore year. I graduated from Auburn with a bachelor's degree in special education in 1997, and I was offered a fellowship to complete my master's degree in autism and behavior modification by 1998. I taught with great success and enjoyment at several Jefferson County Schools from 1998-2004. For one year, I was the lead teacher for a TEACCH classroom in Wake County Schools of Durham, North Carolina. I began teaching for Huntsville City Schools in January of 2005 as an inclusion teacher for Mountain Gap.
As inclusion demands increased and self-contained special education classes decreased, I missed teaching. I obtained an additional teaching certificate in English Language Arts for grades 4 through 8. Later I obtained my teaching certificate in secondary English Language Arts for grades six through twelve. I started teaching English at Mountain Gap in 2010. I love it! My goal is for every student to grow no matter what the starting point may be. I want children to love learning.
